KIRTLAND, Ohio — As the lake effect snow machine slowly cranks up, people in Northeast Ohio are gearing up for another arctic blast.

The snow was falling off and on in Kirtland and other parts of the snowbelt as Old Man Winter teased Northeast Ohio with lake effect snow.

“What a difference a day makes … yeah, yesterday was nice,” said Sharon Nyers.

“Forty degrees it dropped in a day, I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt yesterday,” said Nick Roberts.

“From 60 to 20 I guess, you were talking about the weather changing, I think if you’ve lived here most of your life, kind of used to it, although it’s shocking sometimes and you dress for it,” said Tom Berardinelli.

Road crews from local cities and ODOT laid down salt and monitored the streets.  Many of them had just enough snow to make them slick.

“I’m prepared because I live around here and this is kind of a normal thing, so you gotta be prepared,” said Roberts.

By evening, many snowbelt communities were covered with only a dusting of the white stuff, which made it easy for people to get around.  But residents were mentally preparing themselves for what could be on the way.

“Just wait, blink, it’ll change, it’s always changing.  Better than being in an igloo for six months, one day it’s nice, you get out on the bike, the next day it’s snowing,” said Joe Colantonio.

“It’s been a good winter for Northeast Ohio, we expect this kind of weather all the time, so yeah, this is good.  Last year we didn’t have no winter, but this year, it’s perfect winter.  We’re dressed for it,” said Domenick DiFranco.
