CLEVELAND — A career game from Ubaldo Jimenez made it two wins in a row for the Indians after defeating the Red Sox 5-3 Thursday night. Ubaldo Jimenez was very strong on the mound as he earned his ninth win of the year in six innings. He allowed eight hits, only three runs and matched a career high with 10 strikeouts.
Jason Donald got another call up from Columbus and he gave the Indians a reason to keep him around. Donald started things off for the offense with a solo home run in the first inning that gave them a 1-0 lead. Donald continued to stay busy at the plate going 2-4, with 2 RBI, 2 runs scored and a stolen base.
Jimenez allowed a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning, but when the bottom came around, so did the run support. Carlos Santana tied the game up with a single to score Donald. Santana finished the night going 2-3. The Indians took a 4-3 lead later in the inning off of a Michael Brantley sacrifice fly that brought in Asdrubal Cabrera.
The Tribe victory was capped off with a textbook performance by the Bullpen Mafia. Tony Sipp pitched a perfect seventh inning, Vinnie Pestano allowed just one hit in the eighth and Chris Perez got his 30th save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.
The Indians will look to make it a three game win streak Friday night in game 2 of the Red Sox Series. Chris Seddon (0-0) will get his second start for Cleveland and Clay Buchholz (9-3) will start for Boson. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
