AKRON — A familiar name lurks near the top of the leaderboard at the Bridgestone Invitational.
Tiger Woods was up to his old ways shooting an opening round 66.
Woods opened up on the back nine where he had two birdies and two bogeys for an even par 35.
The front nine which was actually Woods’ back nine suited Tiger just well. He was four-under on the front which gave him his 15th round of 66 or better at Firestone.
According to Tiger, conditions were blustery and the greens were soft, but he struck the ball well with his driver which he used quite a bit in the opening round.
Woods was pleased with his iron game. “I feel very good with what I’m doing with basically my whole swing and I hit a lot of good shots,” said Woods. “I had a really good feel for the distance today and I read the wind right today.”
Woods was also pleased with his putting. “I putted well. I had a good speed to it,” he said. “I did some work last night, had a really good handle on the feel; obviously it changed overnight with the rain, spent a little extra time, maybe five minutes, hit some light putts with a little moisture on it to see what it would do.”
Woods tees off Friday in round two of the Bridgestone Invitational at 1:10 p.m.
