CLEVELAND– A source close to the situation confirms to FOX 8 that a deal is in place for the Cleveland Cavaliers to bring back coach Mike Brown.

He would become the 19th coach in team history. He was also the 17th coach in team history.

The man who led the team to its only appearance in the NBA finals has been out of the NBA since being fired by the Los Angeles Lakers only 5 games into this past season.

The Cavaliers considered Brown the man for the job from the beginning. He had a dinner meeting in Detroit on Sunday, according to various media reports, with Chris Grant and owner Dan Gilbert.

Brown texted FOX 8 as recent as Thursday night, that the team had not yet reached out to him. Earlier last Thursday the Cavs fired Byron Scott. Brown was however receptive to a return to the league. He was also starting the process of moving back to the Cleveland area so his youngest son could attend high school here and also to be close to Butler University where his oldest son, Elijah had signed to play college basketball.

Brown coached one full season in Los Angeles, before his very short stint this season.
