CLEVELAND –Zach McAllister pitched a gem and the bullpen made it stick. The Tribe beat the Oakland A’s 1-0 for their second win in a row Tuesday night.
McAllister shut down the A’s over 7 and two thirds innings, allowing just 5 hits while striking out 4 batters. That was good enough for him to register his 3rd win against 3 losses on the season.
No runner reached second base and McAllister had 0-2 counts on ten batters.
Rich Hill came on in the 8th inning to get a tough out and Chris Perez pitched the
9th inning to get his 4th save of the season. His 9th was aided by catcher Yan Gomes’ laser throw to nail Yoenis Cespedes trying to steal second base.
The lone run of the game was scored in the 5th inning when Gomes hit a sacrifice fly to center as Carlos Santana scored.
The Indians are now 16-14 and two games over the .500 mark for the first time since they opened the season at 2-0.
Game three of the series is Wednesday night. Justin Masterson toes the rubber for the Tribe and A.J. Griffin pitches for Oakland.
