CLEVELAND– The Indians posted a 5-3 bounce-back win on Wednesday night in game three of the four-game series against the Kansas City Royals. Bryan Shaw got credit for the win in relief.
The Royals got on board first, in the top of the second inning with a pair of solo homers, struck by Salvador Perez and Mike Moustakas off starter Justin Masterson.
Cleveland tied the game in the bottom of the second when Michael Bourn tripled in a pair of runs. Asdrubal Cabrera and Mike Aviles scored.
Cleveland answered a Royals run scored in the top of the 6th inning with one of their own to make it a 3-3 game.
In the bottom of that inning, Yan Gomes was at the plate when Michael Brantley tried to steal second.
The catcher, Perez, committed a throwing error and center fielder Jarrod Dyson botched the ball to allow Brantley to go all around the bases and score the tying run.
Cleveland went ahead for good in the bottom of the seventh when Jason Kipnis doubled home Nick Swisher.
The Tribe made the 4-3 lead increase by one when Lonnie Chisenhall brought home the 5th run in the bottom of the 8th.
John Axford put one man on board and then took care of the rest to record his 8th save of the season.
The Indians and Royals play a noon game Thursday at Progressive Field.
