ATLANTA — In a hard fought and long pitching battle that came down to the wire, the Indians fell for the second straight night to the Atlanta Braves, 3-2.
The Indians remained scoreless and down by two until the 4th inning when Mike Aviles homered to left, putting the Tribe down just 2-1.
Aviles was also responsible for the tying run in the 8th inning with his sacrifice fly that scored Nick Swisher, making the Tribe even with the Braves 2-2 heading into the 9th inning.
The Indians went down 1-2-3, and it seemed like the game would go into extra innings before Chris Johnson recorded a single and drove Jordan Schafer home to give Atlanta the win.
The Indians continued their offensive woes, only scoring two runs despite nine hits.
Justin Masterson lasted six innings for Cleveland, giving up 5 hits, 2 runs and striking out 6 batters.
Joe Smith (5-2) was tagged with the loss, giving up 4 hits and the game-winning run.
The Tribe will conclude the series Thursday. Ubaldo Jiminez will take the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
