MASSILLON, Ohio– A popular area football team, the Massillon Tigers, will soon have its own license plate.
It wasn’t an easy one to get either; the brains behind the idea spent three years working on it.
“We Massillon people are so proud of being from here, so I thought, gee we could do this,” said Mary Strukel. She said she couldn’t be happier with the final product.
The process for getting the special plate was pretty complex.
She first had to petition the state, then collect 500 signatures; she went well beyond that and got 800 instead.
“We just went around and a lot of it was done at the football games, people coming in. We would explain what it was for and they would happily sign for it,” said Strukel.
After several ups and downs, the bill her license plate was a part of finally passed both chambers. Governor John Kasich just signed off on it recently.
The plate should be ready by October and will cost an extra $25: $10 will go back to the BMV, while $15 will go to the town’s Booster Club.
They’ll then use that money for different school projects and programs.
