CLEVELAND — Week #8 of Friday Night Touchdown featured several great games with thrilling finishes. With the season winding down, every game takes on added importance for teams trying to lock up Playoff berths, or climb back into the hunt.

The Shearer Equipment Game of the Week went down to the wire. Chagrin Falls (6-2) traveled to West Geauga (6-2) for a key Chagrin Valley Conference clash, with first place on the line. The Wolverines jumped on top early, thanks to the tough running of dual-threat quarterback Connor Krouse. While Chagrin Falls’ offense spurted and turned the ball over, the Tigers’ defense kept them in the game and made the biggest play of the night. Falls led 22-14 before Krouse drove the Wolverines down the field for a huge touchdown with just :31 seconds remaining, to cut the lead to 22-20. West Geauga needed a two-point conversion to force overtime, but Chagrin Falls stopped them short, securing the win and creating a three-way tie for first place in the Chagrin Division, along with Aurora (7-1). The win also keeps Chagrin Falls atop the Region 11 Playoff standings, with two games to play.

#2 St. Vincent – St. Mary (8-0) continued its outstanding season with an easy 41-0 win against overmatched Barberton. The defending Division III State Champion is ranked #1 again and has now won 14 straight games and 21 of their last 23. The Irish will get a chance to avenge their last loss next Friday when they travel to Massillon (7-1) which beat them 44-23 in week #9 of the 2012 season.

Kirtland (8-0) just keeps winning. The Hornets blasted Berkshire 54-0 for their 43rd straight regular season victory and their 37th win in their last 38 games. Kirtland is ranked #1 in the Division VI state poll and is a heavy favorite to extend its streak to 45 straight regular season wins heading to the Playoffs.

#9 Avon (8-0) also continues to impress. The Eagles outscored Rocky River 56-41 for their 19th win in the last 20 games.  Avon is ranked 4th in Division II and tied with fellow unbeaten Highland (8-0) for first place in the Region 4 Playoff race.

#3 Glenville has hit its usual October roll. The Tablooders have not lost a Cleveland Senate League game since 1997 and that streak was never in jeopardy Friday, as its explosive athletes crushed Collinwood 62-0. Glenville has climbed to 8th in the latest Division II Poll and should finish the year on a nine-game winning streak, after their season-opening loss to top-ranked St. Edward (9-0).

It has been a storybook season for Columbia (8-0) and the Raiders’ leader put on an impressive performance Friday night. A week after being helped off the field with a high ankle sprain, Quarterback Jay Banyasz taped it up and toughed it out, leading Columbia to a hard-fought 21-7 win over a game Lutheran West (4-4) team. Banyasz’s efforts also earned him the Friday Night Touchdown Player of the Week Award. The Raiders are ranked 6th in the Division V Poll and if they can win their final two games, Columbia will complete the first perfect regular season in school history.
