Week #7 of FOX 8’s Emmy Awarding Winning ‘Friday Night Touchdown‘ kicks off Friday, October 5th at 11:00 p.m.

Each week during the 2012 high school football season, we will nominate area games to receive extended coverage both on air, and online, on the Friday Night Touchdown webpage.

Students, staff, players, coaches, fans and FOX 8 viewers are invited to vote for their favorite school or game.

This week’s winning game is: CRESTWOOD at KENT ROOSEVELT!

FOX 8 Reporter P.J. Ziegler will provide extended coverage of the winning game on Friday night, both on-air and online.

(Voting is now closed.)

Here were this week’s nominees.

A. CRESTWOOD at KENT ROOSEVELT:  Last week’s win over Coventry was Crestwood’s (2-4) first game against an opponent with fewer than four wins. The Red Devils have run the gauntlet during the first half of the season, and are just one point away from being .500 and in the thick of the Region 9 Playoff Race. Roosevelt (5-1) is led by its dual-threat superstar, QB Tra’Von Chapman. The University of Pittsburgh recruit has already thrown 13 touchdown passes, while rushing for three more. The Rough Riders are sitting 5th in Region 5 and looking to move up with a win.

B. STOW at HUDSON:  Stow’s (2-4) record is a little misleading, as the Bulldogs are two overtime losses and one touchdown away from being 5-1 and fighting for a possible home game in the Region 2 Playoffs. But the Bulldogs, which are coming off a shutout win over Parma, will have their hands full against Hudson (5-1). The Explorers, led by Michigan recruit Ben Gedeon, have rebounded nicely after a disappointing loss to Brunswick in Week #4, and now sit just ahead of the Blue Devils in the very competitive Region 2.

C. TALLMADGE at NORDONIA:  After a season-opening loss at Ravenna, Tallmadge (5-1) has hit its stride, winning five straight, by an average of 26 points per game. The Blue Devils defense has been dominant, allowing just a total of seven points during a three-week stretch against rivals Copley, Revere and Akron Gafield. Nordonia (5-1) has been one of the biggest surprises in 2012. The Knights are a single point away from being undefeated, and have won five straight games, after a season-opening setback against Mayfield. Nordonia is 4th in the very tough Region 2, and looking to secure a home game in the first round of the Playoffs.

D. STREETSBORO at NORTON:   Streetsboro (4-2) has been up and down in 2012, and the Rockets ran into a buzz saw last week against Kent Roosevelt. But despite the setback, they are still sitting sixth in Region 13 and just percentage points out of the second seed. A win over surprising Norton (5-1) could be just the boost they need to lock up a Playoff berth. This will be the first real test for the Panthers, who have feasted on a weak early schedule, racking up their five wins against teams with a combined eight wins. Norton is sixth in Region 9, and could move up with a win, but a loss could drop them six to eight spots in the standings.
