Week #6 of FOX 8’s Emmy Awarding Winning ‘Friday Night Touchdown‘ kicks off Friday, September 28th at 11:00 p.m.

Each week during the 2012 high school football season, we will nominate area games to receive extended coverage both on air, and online, on the Friday Night Touchdown webpage.

Students, staff, players, coaches, fans and FOX 8 viewers were invited to vote for their favorite school or game.

FOX 8 Reporter P.J. Ziegler will provide extended coverage of the winning game on Friday night.

Congratulations to this week’s winner, BLACK RIVER at MEDINA BUCKEYE.

Here were this week’s nominees.

(Voting is now closed.)

A. GREEN at CLOVERLEAF: The 40th annual Woollybear Festival is this Sunday, September 30th, so it is only fitting that Dick Goddard’s beloved Green (3-2) Bulldogs are up for Game of the Week. The Bulldogs travel to Surburban League rival Cloverleaf (3-2) this Friday. The Colts started the season 3-0, with big wins over their Medina County rivals, Buckeye and Medina. But they have take a couple steps back in recent weeks, including a disappointing shutout loss to Wadsworth last week.

B. BLACK RIVER at BUCKEYE:  Black RIver (2-3) has rebounded after an 0-3 start, to win its last two games, including a 31-30 thriller over Lutheran West in overtime. Buckeye (1-4) is starting to come together, after scoring just five total points in its first two games. The Pirates shutout the Bucks last season, on their way to a Playoff berth and 9-3 record, so Buckeye will be looking for a little revenge against their PAC Stars Division foe.

C. MENTOR at BRUNSWICK:  All-Ohio QB Mitch Trubisky leads Mentor (4-1) on the long road trip to Brunswick (4-1) in one of the weekend’s marquee games. The winner will have a leg up in the very competitive Northeast Ohio Valley Division. The Cardinals and Blue Devils have played some memorable games in recent years, including big wins for Mentor in both the 2007 Playoffs and last season. Both teams have lost only once, and both to an undefeated team: Brunswick to Austintown-Fitch, the #7 team in the AP Division 1 Poll, and Mentor to the state’s top-ranked team, and defending Division I State Champion, St. Ignatius.

D. HOLY NAME at ST. PETER CHANEL:   Holy Name (1-4) last its starting quarterback in week one, when the Green Wave allowed Highland to light up the scoreboard for 69 points. But since then the Namers have made significant progress, outplaying Benedictine in a disappointing loss, before finally getting their first win last week, a thrilling 43-42 triple-overtime affair against Padua. Chanel (2-3) opened the season with back-to-back wins, before dropping three straight games to perennial playoff contenders. Holy Name blasted the Firebirds 41-7 last season, so Chanel will be looking to even the score on their home turf.
