Here were this week’s nominees:
A. CANTON GLENOAK at EUCLID: The Golden Eagles are flying high after beating rival Massillon Washington for the second straight season, while Euclid’s talented defense recovered from a tough opening week loss to Mentor, to blank Cleveland Central Catholic, 44-0.
B. BENEDICTINE at BEDFORD: The Bengals challenging road schedule continues, after losses at perennial playoff powers Boardman and Steubenville, while the Bearcats, who have outscored their opponents 108-14, hope their high-powered offense, will carry them to their first 3-0 start since 2002.
C. CHARDON at MAPLE HEIGHTS: The Hilltoppers have been one of the area’s pleasant surprises thus far, winning their first two games by an average of 15 points, while the Mustangs haven’t missed a beat after losing head coach Todd Filtz to Canton McKinley. Maple has only allowed eight points through eight quarters this season.
D. SHAW at GARFIELD HEIGHTS: The Red Ball Express lost a heart-breaker to Dover in week one, but rebounded in a big way, with a 60-0 win over Collinwood, while the Bulldogs lost a defensive struggle to Medina, before beating Berea last week.
