PARMA, Ohio — Top-ranked St. Edward did not even know who their first round playoff opponent would be until Friday afternoon, but the uncertainty did not seem to affect the Eagles at all. Tailback Dwayne Aaron scored three touchdowns on St. Eds’ first four possessions, and the Eagles’ defense did the rest, in a decisive 55-27 win over Mayfield.

Ryan Fallon threw two touchdown passes, one to Aaron, one to Shaun Crawford, and the senior quarterback added another score on the ground.

The Eagles also scored a pair of defensive touchdowns, first Jack Walz blocked a Drazen Markovic punt and dove on the loose ball in the end zone. Then LaVonte Robinson intercepted a Markovic screen pass and returned it 60-yards for another touchdown.

St. Edward improves to 11-0 with the win. The Eagles advance to next week’s Region 1 semifinal against the winner of the opening round game between 4th seeded Mentor (9-1) and 5th seeded Warren G. Harding (9-1).

Mayfield finishes its season at 6-5.
