CLEVELAND — The Medina Bees hosted Wadsworth in a Friday night showdown.
Two high scoring offenses were playing the defensive card early on.
Barrett Labus hauled in the catch for a grizzlies first down, but the drive would end when Trey Shaffer rolled right and got picked off Jajuan Jackson. The Bees then took over.
Medina went right to work when Ryan Gillespie, the leftie, fired over the middle, hit Luke Hensley, who breaks it outside. He goes 83 yards for the touchdown and a 7-0 Medina lead.
Then, Wadsworth went wit the ground and pound game. Dom Loparo hit the hole, bounced it outside and then finally got knocked out near the sideline.
Then Shaffer fired over the middle. That gets picked off by Seth Dicola, who takes it the other way into Wadsworth territory. That sets up a 39-yard field goal by Ryan Miller to give the Bees a 10-0 lead.
Medina was then back on offense. Gillespie dropped back to pass and fired right into the hands of Jack Grice, who goes pick-6 for Wadsworth to cut the Medina lead to 10-7.
Wadsworth led 21-17 when the weather hit, postponing the game until 3 p.m. Saturday.
Ultimately the Bees beat the Grizzlies 31 – 28.
