NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio – Warren John F. Kennedy showed Holy Name and the rest of Northeast Ohio why the Eagles are considered one of the favorites to win the Division 6 state championship this season.
Senior quarterback Dominic Naples threw two touchdown passes in the first quarter, and Mark Fordeley added two scores on the ground as the Eagles raced out to a 24-0 halftime lead over the Green Wave, then held on to win the North Coast League White Division showdown, 31-14.
Holy Name (2-5, 1-1) junior quarterback Mike Messina led two scoring drives in the second half, and threw a late touchdown pass to give the Namers some hope, but two onside kick attempts both failed, and JFK (6-1, 2-0 NCL) was able to run out the clock.
Warren JFK returns home in week eight to host Trinity (3-4, 1-1). The Eagles are sitting fourth in the Region 21 playoff race, and in position to host a first round game.
Holy Name hosts Cleveland Central Catholic (4-3, 2-0) in a key game for the Ironmen, who still have to play JFK in the season finale.
