MENTOR, Ohio – Lake Catholic had to battle a talented Erie Cathedral Prep team Saturday night, and the Cougars had to do it without their leader and starting quarterback Mark Baniewicz. That was a recipe for disaster. Baniewicz, who leads the Cougars in both rushing and passing, sat out the game with a strained knee ligament, and the visiting Ramblers took advantage of his absence.
Michigan State recruit Damion Terry threw for more than 200 yards and three touchdowns, as (3-0) Cathedral Prep dominated the first half, taking a 34-0 lead into the break.
(1-3) Lake Catholic fought hard in the second half, limiting the Ramblers to just a field goal, before the Cougars finally got on the board. Coach Mike Bell’s son, Dylan, subbing for the injured Baniewicz, connected with Pat Fitzgerald for a 15-yard touchdown pass with just two seconds left in the game, making the final score 37-6 Cathedral Prep.
The schedule does not get any easier for (1-3) Lake Catholic, which is likely to be without Baniewicz, when eight-time State Champion (2-2) Youngstown Cardinal Mooney visits Mentor’s Jerome T. Osborne Stadium next Friday, September 21st.
