Week #1 of the 2013 high school football season is in the books.
All of Saturday’s Final Scores are posted below.
The highlights included the #1 team in the FOX 8 Top 8, the St. Edward Eagles, holding off a talented #4 Glenville Tarblooders’ team in Head Coach Ted Ginn’s return to the sidelines.
Elsewhere, #2 St. Ignatius struggled early on the road at Brother Rice in Bloomfield Hills, MI. The Wildcats fell behind 20-6, before rallying back in the second half, but it wasn’t enough as Coach Chuck Kyle’s team lost its opener 29-20.
#7 Shaker Heights looked like a force to be reckoned with in a loaded Region 1. Talented tailback Ramses Owens led the Red Raiders explosive offense with 175-yards rushing and 3 touchdowns on only eight carries. Shaker stomped University School 54-27.
The game of the day came from Trumbull County, where small school powers Warren JFK and North Lima South Range locked horns. The back and forth affair wasn’t settled until the final play of the game. With JFK leading 30-27, South Range faced 4th and goal. The Raiders could have kicked the field goal to force overtime, but opted instead to go for it, and converted – scoring the game-winning touchdown as the clock expired to win 34-30.
