CLYDE, Ohio – The Avon Eagles overcame adversity all year, but they could not overcome a key injury in the biggest game of the season, falling to Toledo Central Catholic, 42-14 in the Region 6 Final.

Avon (11-2) trailed Toledo Central Catholic (12-1) 7-0 in the 2nd Quarter when Quarterback David Zeh dove into the end zone for the tying touchdown. But Zeh’s head slammed into the turf, forcing him to leave the game with an apparent head injury, and the Eagles were never the same.

DeShone Kizer led Toledo Central Catholic to three quick touchdowns, and the Fighting Irish took a 28-7 lead into halftime. The two teams took turns trading scores in second half, but the Irish proved to be too much for the Eagles to overcome.

With the win, Toledo Central Catholic avenges a 2011 playoff loss to Avon, and advances to the Division II State Semifinal against Aurora (12-1), a 34-14 winner over Chardon in the Region 5 Final.

Avon, which won 11 straight games after a season-opening setback against Avon Lake, finishes the year 11-2.
