CLEVELAND - The Fox 8 I-Team has obtained video from the Cleveland Police helicopter the night the Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA championship last month and a massive party erupted in the streets.
You can see and hear officers struggling to control the crowds of people taking over the streets and lines of cars creating gridlock.
At one point, the chopper hovered overhead as crowds climbed onto a fire truck and two ambulances. In moments, so many people had climbed onto the truck you couldn't even see it from above.
Officers can be heard calling for back-up overwhelmed by the size of the celebration.
However, overall, the large crowd behaved. In fact, a supervisor can be heard asking the members of the chopper crew if they had seen any fires started. They had not.
A small group of people did climb onto a police car and cause significant damage to it. And some of that incident was caught on camera. So we just checked back with police to ask if any charges had been filed for that. The chief's office told us, no. Suspects had not been identified.
As the celebration night moved into the wee hours of the morning, the crowd slowly thinned. Officers could be heard sharing a sigh of relief.
