CLEVELAND – John Telich has confirmed with a league source that the Cleveland Browns will not be moving Johnny Manziel on Wednesday, but at some point, he will be moved.
The Browns selected Manziel with the 22nd overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Last season, he threw for seven touchdowns and 1,500 yards in nine games. The past year has also been plagued with controversy including a stint in rehab, Las Vegas parties and assault allegations.
In February, Sashi Brown, executive vice president of football operations, said Manziel’s status would “be addressed when permitted by league rules.”
While Cleveland is expected to release Manziel, the team may hold onto him past March 9. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported this week the Browns will possibly wait to see if the QB is suspended by the NFL. That would give the team back some bonus money, Schefter speculated.
