CLEVELAND– The Cleveland Browns dominated the Detroit Lions on Thursday night, 24-6 to run their preseason record to 2-0.
Quarterback Brandon Weeden led the first team offense to a pair of touchdowns in a very productive first half. He looked more and more comfortable running Norv Turner’s offense.
Weeden was 8 of 12 for 117 yards and a pair of touchdown passes, both to tight end Jordan Cameron. His QB rating was a strong 137.8.
Trent Richardson ran confidently for 33 yards. Backup Dion Lewis also ran well for the same distance, but injured his ankle in the second half and was carted off the field.
Backup quarterback Jason Campbell was also very effective, completing 12 of 14 passes, including a 14-yard touchdown pass to back-up running back Brandon Jackson. Campbell posted a QB rating of 122.0.
The Browns defense attacked all night long and limited the Lions to just 214 total yards.
Lewis was not the only Browns player to get injured.
Unofficially, Jason Pinkston injured his ankle and Barkevious Mingo injured his ribs. Brandon Bogotay, the young kicker, was hurt in the groin while tight end Gary Barnidge hurt his shoulder. The team will be examining lots of MRIs on Friday and hoping for the best.
The second half saw some crazy moments as a streaker broke free on the field and took off, covering some 60 yards before the security personnel literally booted him off the field.
The Browns are back in action a week from Saturday when they hit the road to face the Indianapolis Colts.
