WESTLAKE, Ohio – A Cleveland Browns player dazzled dozens of fans Christmas Eve, not on the turf, but at the movie theater.
Gary Barnidge treated dozens of people to a free showing of the latest Star Wars movie.
Movie fans nationwide are packing theaters to see the blockbuster movie ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens.‘
“Fans, they support us, they do so much for us and I want to do something for them, give back to them and thank them for the support they give us,” Barnidge said.
Barnidge rented an entire theater inside the Regal Cinemas at Crocker Park in Westlake. Tuesday, he posted a tweet inviting fans to come to the theater on a first come, first serve basis to watch the movie with him and some of his teammates.
“I’ve been following Gary ever since he’s been on the Cleveland Browns, he’s always about the fan experience and he’s always…he loves his fans very much,” said Josh Adkins.
“It’s a good idea that he’s giving back to the community,” said Norman King.
Fans who waited in line got more than a glimpse. He greeted each fan personally before the movie, shaking hands, signing autographs and taking pictures.
“We as NFL players, we have a way to impact people. You never know what’s going on in their life, they could be down, there could be something going on, and just saying ‘hey’, signing autographs, spending time with them can change their whole outlook on the day or their week or anything,” said Barnidge.
“What other way than to spend time with them and take them to my passion of movies. I have a love of movies, so why not bring them along with it too and it gives them an opportunity they don’t get to do,” Barnidge said.
