LITCHFIELD, Ohio — Deep in the mancave of the Browns Bunch, emotions are running high.
“Honestly, I’ve been waiting months to talk about this,” said Jason Darwish, a member of the Browns Bunch.
Bunch is talking about Friday’s announcement that the Browns will most likely be sold to Jimmy Haslam, a minority owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“Nothing against Randy Lerner, but I don’t think he’s involved enough. I want a more hands-on owner who is actually in the owner’s box, watching the same product that we are forced to watch,” added Darwish.
The Browns Bunch tailgate at every home game and say they are loyal to a fault.
So, does Haslam’s Steelers connection bother them?
“I don’t agree that he’s a former Steelers shareholder, but hopefully it will work out,” said Dan Clarke, member of the Browns Bunch.
“If someone new is going to come in and take over, then they need to leave the past go and move forward with us,” added Meagan Clarke.
Fans have stuck with the Browns through many changes.
“Over and over again, there are new players and new managers. I want some stability. I want the same team year after year,” added Clarke.
Frustrations were voiced by fans who called into Tony Rizzo on WKNR’s The Really Big Show.
“I know for a fact that Randy Lerner has told me he would never sell the team to someone that would ever take them out of Cleveland,” said Rizzo.
The Browns Bunch say at this point, they are cautiously optimistic about the new owner.
“With this new regime and new quarterback recently with this draft, hopefully it will turn things around. If not, there’s always next year,” laughed Darwish.
