VERMILION, Ohio– The National Weather Service issued a special marine warning from the Islands to Avon Point. The showers produced waterspouts near Vermilion Monday evening.
Several FOX 8 viewers spotted waterspouts in Lorain County.
The Erie County Sheriff’s Office said the tornado sirens were activated in Erie County because a Huron County deputy reported seeing a funnel cloud in the eastern part of the county. Deputies checked the area and there are no indications of a tornado, the sheriff’s office said.
Waterspouts descend from cumulus clouds over bodies of water. They require high levels of humidity and warm water.
