Sleeping with the Time Change
Sunday is the day we roll our clocks back an hour! The time change can take a toll on your sleep schedule, so here to help was Dr. Michael Decker from Case Western University.
His suggestions for coping with sleep problems and time change?
It really is important that we get an early morning “dose” of sunlight, every day. The blue color spectrum in natural sunlight stimulates our biologic clock, which in turn, activates other areas of our brain to “wake up.” If we do not get that dose of sunlight, we may feel sluggish or only half-awake. We also feel a loss of vigor and vitality during the daytime. In conjunction with a loss of daytime energy, during the evening we may also have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep.
If we cannot get our daily dose of sunshine, and we begin feeling a little irritable or less motivated and sluggish, we could consider “Light Therapy” in which we use blue-light emitting bulbs in the fixtures at our office desks or other locations where we spend our daytime hours.
Maintaining some form of daily exercise or activity is also important in helping to ward-off darkness-induced winter doldrums.
We gave you a sneak peek of Monday’s Road Trip to Lakewood! Natalie took us inside a unique Mexican Restaurant called “Barrio.”
