CLEVELAND– The U.S. Marshals are asking for the public’s help finding a fugitive known by the name “Zombie Mike.”
Michael “Zombie Mike” Hawkins, 29, is accused of sexually assaulting a mentally challenged woman who uses a wheelchair in a Schenectady, New York apartment in 2012. According to the Marshals, the assault happened after her family members went to bed.
Hawkins was charged with aggravated sex abuse , but eluded authorities. Then in 2013, he allegedly raped his friend’s wife.
Marshals said “Zombie Mike,” who got the nickname because of his bad hygiene, has personal ties to New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Oregon, California and Florida. He has worked with traveling carnivals in New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio and Tennessee.
Hawkins can survive in wooded areas and survive off scraps, according to Marshals. He is known to have a temper and abuse alcohol.
“Predators like Michael Hawkins who prey on helpless victims must be brought to justice,” said U.S. Marshal David McNulty of the Northern District of New York. “We, along with our federal, state and local law enforcement partners, are determined to make sure he’s held accountable, but we need the public’s help.”
“The Schenectady and Rotterdam police departments, along with the Marshals, have dedicated countless man-hours during this fugitive investigation,” said McNulty. “With the public’s help, we are confident Hawkins will be arrested.”
Hawkins is 5 foot 9 and weighs about 160 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He has a burn scar on his right arm, a scar on his face and a Grim Reaper tattoo on his chest.
