Wrong-way driver hits Avon police cruiser

AVON, Ohio– An elderly woman was injured after police say she was driving the wrong way in Avon.

The Avon Police Department said they received several phone calls about a reckless driver on Case Road near Detroit Road on Saturday. The concerned callers reported the car was weaving back and forth, and driving on the gravel shoulder.

Officers found the car on Detroit Road near Colorado Avenue. It hit an Avon cruiser, which had its lights and sirens activated.

The driver, an 83-year-old Elyria woman, was taken Avon Emergency Care Center for treatment.

According to police, the crash remains under investigation.
