KNOXVILLE, Tennessee– A woman, who was in a coma for several months, woke up to learn her baby was born while she was in the coma.

According to WATE, Sharista Giles, 20, was in a serious car crash in December.  She was five-months pregnant at the time.  Her baby was delivered prematurely, while she was still in the coma. Doctors told the woman’s family it was likely Sharista would never wake up.

But,  a family member told ABC News that Sharista opened her eyes, blinked and squeezed people’s hands on Wednesday. The woman’s aunt told ABC News that Sharista followed her father around with her eyes.  “He showed her a picture of her baby, and she followed the picture. When he turned around to put it back on the bulletin board, she turned her neck, her whole head trying to follow and find the picture again.”

Sharista’s prognosis is not yet known; her baby boy, who weighed less than two pounds when he was born, now weighs more than six pounds.
