Woman starts fire inside Family Dollar, Akron police say

AKRON, Ohio- A Barberton woman is accused of setting a fire inside a Family Dollar store.

Akron police said Francine M.C. Ruple, 34, walked around the store on North Arlington Street on Friday afternoon, collecting paper products and putting them into a shopping basket. She then poured lighter fluid on the items and lit them on fire.

The Family Dollar quickly filled with smoke as Ruple fled, the Akron Police Department said. Employees tried to extinguish the fire before the fire department arrived.

Ruple was arrested near the corner of North Arlington Street and East Exchange Street. She was taken to the Summit County Jail and charged with aggravated arson.

About a dozen customers were inside the Family Dollar at the time of the fire.
