ELYRIA, OH -- Elyria police are looking for a man they say robbed and carjacked a woman in the Midway Mall parking lot Tuesday afternoon all while she was on Facetime with her boyfriend.

According to police, the 22-year-old woman left work just before 4:30 p.m. and headed to her car in the Best Buy parking lot. She was in her car for a short time when a man opened the door, grabbed her by the neck and said "give me your money or you'll be dead."

The woman offered the suspect her debit card, which he refused. He continued to choke her while trying to start the car, when the woman told him her keys and purse were in the trunk.

As he approached the trunk, the woman was able to get out of the car and get away. She ran back inside the store, where good Samaritans called 911.

You can hear the victim hysterically crying in the background as the caller told the dispatcher, "this woman at Best Buy, in the parking lot at Midway Mall was just attacked and robbed."

According to authorities, the man still has the woman's car, which is described as a teal 1998 Ford Escort with a license plate number of ELV1496.

Shoppers and people who work in the area hope he is caught soon and wonder what else he might try.

"It's scary," said Joanne Fitzpatrick. "It's usually a pretty busy area, that's kind of scary."

Fawn Brooks added, "I've lived here my whole life, but this whole world is crazy now."

Anyone with information is asked to call Elyria police.
