PAINESVILLE, Ohio – A woman killed in a Painesville house fire last week has been identified.
According to Sgt. Michael DeCaro with the Painesville Police Department, the victim is Kari Simons, 25.
She died of smoke inhalation.
Simons had been feared dead from the beginning.
Her family said she worked late the night before and may have been sleeping at the home the morning of the fire.
Before Simons was identified, her parents said they tried contacting her friends to see if she may be with them, but her car and dog were both at her home on East South Street.
Simons’ body was discovered in a first floor bedroom.
Everyone else in the multi-family home made it out safely.
A cause of the fire has not been determined, but it was first reported as a dryer fire.
