MONTREAL, Quebec — A woman who stopped her car on a highway to let ducks cross the road was responsible for two people’s deaths, a jury has decided.

According to CTV, Emma Czornobaj, 25, was found guilty of criminal negligence causing death and dangerous driving causing death.

About four years ago, officials said she parked her car in the left lane of a highway in an attempt to rescue a group of ducks. Just seconds later, a motorcycle carrying a man and his 16-year-old daughter crashed into the back of Emma’s car. Both the father and his daughter died.

During Emma’s trial, the defense called it an accident, and not a criminal act. She’ll be sentenced next month. She faces life in prison.
