The victim, identified by police as Devon Cook, 28, of Medina, passed away at the scene. Her child, an infant, who was in the backseat of the car, was taken to the hospital, but according to police, the infant had no obvious injuries.

Police say Cook was traveling south on River Styx Road when a large tree fell from the east side of the road. When her vehicle was struck by the tree, it veered left off of the roadway and into the woods.

The tree struck the passenger compartment of the vehicle with the area of the driver’s seat sustaining the most damage.

The crash remains under investigation, but police say it appears it was a terrible accident.
