Woman Charged with Aggravated Arson

NORTH CANTON, Ohio — An Akron woman was arrested on three counts of aggravated arson nearly a year after a fire was set and spread through three houses.

According to the North Canton Police Department, Rose Ann Butts was named the suspect after a Stark County grand jury was presented with the facts.

On April 12, 2012 around 10:12 a.m., Butts allegedly set fire to a home in the 500 block of McKinley Avenue S.E. in North Canton.

It spread to a home on either side.

The North Canton Fire Prevention Bureau, North Canton Police Department, State Fire Marshal’s Office and Stark County Prosecutor’s Office conducted an investigation.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation determined the cause to be arson after analyzing debris samples.

Butts was taken to the Stark County jail and was scheduled to be arraigned on March 1.
