Wickliffe, OH – A Warrensville Heights woman is accused of stealing from a camp for special needs children.

According to the Wickliffe Police Department, 26-year-old Monique Kelley took nearly $200 from Camp Happiness located in Wickliffe.

Employees called police after they noticed money had gone missing. When officers arrived, they started questioning people, and that’s when Kelley admitted she had taken the money.

She has since been charged with theft and was arraigned in court this week. She plead not guilty.

Lt. Pat Hengst, with the Wickliffe Police Department, said it’s sad to think something like this could happen.

“I think it touches a nerve when anybody is entrusted with the care of another person would take advantage of that situation for their own gain.
Because of that, we felt there was a responsibility to the public to let folks know that this is happening out there and this person is involved,” he said.

It turns out that Kelley is a private health aide for one of the campers and doesn’t actually work at the camp.

FOX 8 reached out to the camp for a comment, but did not hear back.
