LORAIN, Ohio -- Country music legend Willie Nelson made a stop in northeast Ohio to campaign for Congressman Dennis Kucinich.

Nelson performed in front of a sold-out crowd at the Lorain Palace Theatre Sunday evening. The concert, which cost $15 a ticket, is a way to raise money for Kucinich's re-election bid.

"He's ran for president a few times, and I backed him every time I think, and whatever Dennis wants to do, I'm here to help," Nelson said.

"Willie's called me, every once in a while, he'll write a song, give me a call and say, 'What do you think about this?' and because of our friendship, I've been privy to some really important messages that Willie Nelson has," said Kucinich.

Kucinich is in a battle with popular Toledo-area congresswoman Marcy Kaptur for the newly-redrawn 9th Congressional District which stretches from Cleveland to Toledo. When asked about Willie Nelson campaigning for Kucinich, Kaptur's campaign released a statement saying, "Kucinich brings singers to Northeast Ohio, but Marcy Kaptur brings jobs to Northeast Ohio."

Kucinich fought back, saying he's saved steel jobs in Cleveland and many others.

"The jobs that I fought for, for Ford and GM, the jobs that are at the social security center, the new building there in Lakewood, Ohio, the jobs that will be at the new veterans center in Parma," responded Kucinich.

"Whoever this lady is that says you bring singers...maybe had you thought about a duet," Nelson joked.

People who attended Willie Nelson's concert say they are fans of the singer, as well as Kucinich. For $100, fans got to meet both of them.

"I think he's done a good job. He's always been for the people, always for the working people, and he always will be...it's Dennis. He gives you his word, and he keeps it," said one supporter.

"I am thrilled to see Willie, and think it's great that he's coming out and helping this cause. It's really rare that celebrities get to come to this area, and I think it's really great for this area, it's really great for the campaign," said another supporter.
