KNOXVILLE, Iowa — A chance meeting between the President of the United States and a beer enthusiast added up to a big payday for a children’s charity.

According to Obama Foodorama, a bottle of the home-brewed White House Honey Ale fetched $1,200 at auction.

The beer was given to Brad Magerkurth, 42, last August when President Barack Obama encountered him on the campaign trail in Knoxville, Iowa.

Magerkurth, a Minnesota resident who is a home brewer and beer salesman, was on “beer business” at the time, Obama Foodorama reported.

President Obama gave Magerkurth a beer, who then made the 12-ounce bottle available to the highest bidder.

The proceeds benefit the University’s Amplatz Children’s Hospital.
