Independence, Ohio — If you travel Brecksville Rd. or Brookside Rd. in Independence for your morning commute, you better plan a different way to get where you need to go.

Two water main breaks are forcing detours on Friday morning.

Brecksville Rd. is closed just north of Pleasant Valley Rd., and the Independence Police Department expects it to remain closed all day Friday.

In addition to the flooding, the surface also buckled.

Police have been issuing tickets to drivers who attempt to drive through the affected area since it is possible for the road to collapse.

Because of a second break, Brookside Rd. is also closed at Route 21.

Drivers are advised to avoid Route 21 between Wallings and Rockside, but I-77 and Broadview Rd. are available.

It’s not known how the water main break will impact water service for area businesses and residents. There has not yet been a boil alert issued.
