CHICAGO, Illinois -- It's not algae or green slime ... it's just a decades-old way the Windy City likes to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day!

The official holiday is on March 17, but in Chicago, festivities kick off a week early.

Thousands of people gathered on Saturday at the Chicago River for the annual river dying and parade.

The tradition started back in 1961.
