Elyria police: Man arrested for attempted carjacking

ELYRIA- The Elyria Police Department says a man wanted for an attempted carjacking has been arrested.

The incident happened Tuesday around 11:18 p.m. in the Speedway parking lot on Broad Street.

According to police, the suspect, now identified as Johnny Mack, 39, asked the victim for directions while she was entering her vehicle. The suspect told the victim to get out of the car and threatened to stab her.

Authorities say when he tried to force his way into the car, the woman pulled out a pocket knife to defend herself.

Police said Mack was arrested Friday morning and admitted to his involvement in the crime.

According to a press release from Elyria police, Mack also admitted to being involved in a break-in at management offices on Abbe Road on December 10.

He’s been charged with aggravated robbery and breaking and entering.

Mack is being held without bond pending a hearing in court.
