CLEVELAND — A 13-year-old boy has been arrested after Cleveland police said he was involved in a hate crime.
The incident happened Friday night at Cocktail’s Bar on Detroit Ave.
On Saturday evening, dozens of people got together for a candelight vigil to unify after the violence. Patrons and employees at Cocktail’s tell Fox 8 they want the hate and violence to stop.
On Friday night, around 8:00 p.m., Cleveland police said a group of juveniles were outside of the bar and began throwing rocks at Patrick Scardino, 58, who was at the bar.
Police also said the crowd yelled messages of hate to the patrons who were dining out on the patio.
Police tell Fox 8 the group was speaking negatively, specifically about homosexuality.
After the young people left the area where the assault took place, police were able to catch up with one juvenile at Detroit Avenue and West 87th.
The teenager was arrested and taken to the Central Prison Unit where he was booked. The rest got away.
On August 31, surveillance video showed young men attacking another bartender. That incident happened around 11:00 p.m. So far, no arrests have been made in that case.
Meanwhile, Cocktail’s is fully equipped with cameras and surveillance so many are hoping that authorities will be able to identify the other suspects involved in both crimes.
