CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cleveland Police Department is getting some help from the Federal Bureau of Investigations after a series of attacks and murders on the east side of the city.

Last week, a 20-year-old woman was discovered dead in an abandoned home on East 93rd Street.  A few days after that gruesome discovery, another woman’s body was found in a field on Bessemer Avenue.

This past Saturday, a 20-year-old woman was attacked while walking on East 116th around 5:30 a.m.

“I felt somebody snatch me by my scarf and drag me backwards,” said the victim, who survived after a passing car pulled over, and the occupants scared off the attacker.

FOX 8 News is not identifying the victim, but she wants people to know what happened and she considers herself lucky to be alive.

After the suspect grabbed her, the woman said she was dragged up the driveway of an abandoned home where he tried to sexually assault her.

“I started screaming and he was telling me, ‘shut up, shut up’, but I could tell he didn't want me to hear his voice really, you know, because after that he didn't say anything,” said the woman. “He had a real deep voice, but he was covered completely so I couldn’t see his arms or anything, or get no type of skin under my nails or anything to scratch him, or anything.”

The three recent incidents are within walking distance, and Cleveland City Councilman Zack Reed believes they’re all connected.

“We’ve gotta get this guy off our streets,” said Reed. “Anyone that would prey on our women that are going to work in the morning, in the afternoon, during the day, is not a good person.”

The suspect is still on the run, and police are also hoping to hear from the Good Samaritans who stopped and saved the young woman on Saturday. After scaring off the suspect, they left the scene.

The police and the victim are hoping they got a good look at the suspect.

“It’s not, you know, snitching,” said the woman who survived. “You’re helping somebody catch this pervert who is out here doing this stuff to people.”

The suspect is described as a black male in his 40s, around 6 feet, 2 inches tall with a thin build and a small gap between his upper teeth.  He was wearing a black hooded knee-length jacket, dark blue or black pants ripped at the bottom, black steel toed boots and black winter gloves.

Anyone with information regarding the crimes or any suspicious activity is asked to call Cleveland police sex crimes and child abuse unit at 216-623-5630.
