BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, Ohio — A local VFW post is rising from the ashes.
A devastating fire wiped out VFW Post 3483 in Independence in 2011. Saturday, the organization held a grand opening celebration at its new building in Brooklyn Heights.
Despite not having a location to gather at the last three years, the post still has around 140 members.
“We initially started off holding meetings in a construction trailer,” said the post’s Bernard Borowski. “Then we held meetings in a garage at our old location. Once we gave that up, it was a little tough keeping our members together. But once they saw the building going up…they all stayed in touch waiting for this day.”
The VFW post was founded 78 years ago and is one of the oldest posts in Ohio.
