VERMILION, Ohio-- Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Kenneth Velez's daughter used to work at the Vermilion Quaker Steak and Lube.

Velez was killed when he was struck by a vehicle while working traffic enforcement on Interstate 90 in Cleveland on Sept. 15.

"He used to come in a lot when his daughter was here. He was so proud of her," said John Rosser, marketing manager for the restaurant.

On Wednesday, the staff wanted to serve Trooper Velez one last time. So they held a fundraiser to raise money for his family.

Many who stopped at the restaurant said they want the Velez family to know they support them and will never forget him.

"I am so glad Quaker Steak and Lube is doing this," said Brandon Fitzpatrick.

The restaurant is donating 20 percent of all proceeds raised Wednesday to the Velez family.
