STRONGSVILLE, Ohio-- The FOX 8 I-Team has obtained security camera video showing two young people ripping down an American flag, cutting holes in it and posing for pictures with the flag after it was destroyed.
It happened over the weekend outside Olmsted Heating and Cooling in Strongsville.
Ed Gross, the owner, was disgusted by what he saw on his cameras from the wee hours of one morning.
"I think about my father in World War II, and I think about all the friends I've had that have been in wars. So the flag means really everything to me. It really does," Gross said.
What happened to his flag comes weeks after we saw an American flag burned in a Cleveland street during the week of the Republican National Convention. It's all at a time when debate is raging nationwide about athletes sitting during the National Anthem.
In the Strongsville case, the vandals even posed for pictures after ripping up the flag.
Those pictures may help investigators. Parma police got a tip after pictures started getting around. The suspects may be local high school students.
Parma and Strongsville police are now working together to follow up on this.
"It's really disruptive to think high school kids are thinking this way. And what you would do to make them change that way? I don't know," Gross said.
Gross plans on replacing that flag immediately.
