WAYNE TOWNSHIP, Ohio-- Two Amish buggies and a car were involved in a crash in Tuscarawas County Sunday morning, sending 8 people to area hospitals.

It happened at Chestnut Road Road and Lawnfield Road in Wayne Township at 8 a.m.

The Ohio State Patrol reports that a Jeep was traveling east on Chestnut Ridge Road when it crossed left of center, hitting the buggies head on. Both drivers and all the passengers in the buggies were ejected. The Jeep drove off the road and eventually stopped in a wooded area.

The two people in one buggy, a 55-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, were taken to Aultman Hospital.

There were 5 people in the other buggy, 2 adults and three children. A 32-year-old man was taken to Aultman Hospital. A 30-year-old woman was taken to Akron City Hospital, and an 8- and 2-year-old girl were taken to Akron Children's Hospital, while a 6-year-old was taken to Mercy Hospital.

The driver of the Jeep, a 36-year-old woman, was taken to Mercy Hospital.

There was no word on the extent of the injuries to any of those riding in the three vehicles.

A friend and neighbor arrived at the scene after hearing about the accident.

"I'm mad about the whole situation just uncalled for," said Gary Tucker who fought back tears while talking to Fox 8. "These people they are family."

One horse was killed in the crash. A second horse had only minor injuries.

"Everybody stands up for each other and if this were my accident they would have been the first people showing up to help me," said family friend Andrew Shetler who was called to the accident scene. "Just couldn't believe it was just amazing all people I knew and worked personally with over the years and the horses I have horses myself it's heartbreaking to see what actually happened."

The Highway Patrol reports that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor and that they are continuing their investigation.
