Charles R. Shaw, 76, killed his own son during an argument on Sherwin Drive in Twinsburg Tuesday evening, police said.

According to the preliminary report from the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office, Charles Shaw was angry about his medications from Cleveland Clinic.

“Charles got two weapons, a rifle and a 38 caliber, and was going to Cleveland Clinic to do some damage,” the report said. “Scott Shaw attempted to stop his father and was then shot by his father.”

When officers arrived, Charles Shaw was reloading his gun near the body of 55-year-old Scott R. Shaw. Police said Charles Shaw refused to put down his weapon and pointed it at police. That’s when an officer fatally shot him.

Authorities aren’t saying what Charles Shaw was being treated for or if it was the Cleveland Clinic campus in Twinsburg.

“Our thoughts are with the family and we are fully cooperating with the local authorities to assist them in their ongoing investigation,” said Cleveland Clinic spokesperson Angela Smith in a statement Thursday.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is now investigating the case. Spokeswoman Jill DelGreco said BCI is looking into the possible threat against the clinic.

An autopsy completed Wednesday found both men died of gunshot wounds to the torso. Toxicology testing could take several weeks.

That police officer was placed on administrative leave, pending the investigation. He’s been with the department for three and a half years.

People at the home where the shootings happened declined comment Thursday morning.
