The Indians helped Terry Francona win in his first game back to Fenway since he was fired as manager.
The heavy lumber was evident much of the night as the Indians banged out 16 hits en route to a 12-3 win. However, the Tribe scored all those runs without the benefit of a home run.
Zach McAllister was the beneficiary of the extra offense as he went 5 innings to get the win. He allowed 5 hits and three runs, all courtesy of a David Ortiz 3 run homer. He struck out five batters and his ERA now stands at 2.89.
Drew Stubbs doubled to right field in the second inning for a 1-0 lead. Mark Reynolds brought home two with a single to deep center in the third and Mike Aviles made it 4-0 as he grounded into a fielder’s choice.
Ortiz homered in the bottom of the third to make it a 1 run game.
In the fourth and fifth innings, the Tribe got single runs to push the lead to 6-3. Asdrubal Cabrera had the first RBI and Michael Bourn the second.
Cleveland went to town in the 6th inning, getting 6 runs on 6 hits to put the game away.
Reynolds made it 7-3 with an RBI single. Yan Gomes made it 9-3 as he singled home two runs. Drew Stubbs tripled in two more and Michael Bourn sent Stubbs home with a single.
Reynolds and Stubbs each had 3 hits and 2 RBI, while Bourn had 3 hits and delivered two runs.
