CLEVELAND–The Indians won their second straight game, 4-3, Monday night before just under 11,000 fans at Progressive Field.
The Indians took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Michael Brantley stroked a 2-run homer. It didn’t last long.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Royals took advantage of Indian errors to take a 3-2 lead.
Alicides Escobar belted a liner to center field but Michael Bourn couldn’t come up with the ball, as it popped out of his glove. Mike Moustakas scored to make it 2-1.
Jarrod Dyson bunted, but Zach McAllister threw the ball wildly to first and Escobar scored.
Omar Infante came to the plate and singled to left as Dyson scored and it was 3-2, Kansas City.
All was forgiven in the bottom of the sixth inning when Jason Kipnis hit his 3rd homer of the season with a man aboard. That gave the Tribe a 4-3 lead.
The book on McAllister was he pitched 6 innings, gave up 6 hits and three runs. Two of the runs were earned.
The bullpen came on and was outstanding. Rzepczynski, Allen and Axford pitched the 7th, 8th and 9th. Axford got his 7th save of the young season with a 1—2—3 ninth inning.
The series continues Tuesday night.
