CLEVELAND-- Crews of 65 on 12-hour shifts have been working around the clock to clean up the smoke and soot that covered every inch of Cleveland's historic West Side Market.

Kevin Mann of RestorX MD, the contractor who is cleaning up the market, told us, "When we first got here we were a little overwhelmed at the severity of the project, as far as the amount of smoke and soot that was here, and the square footage of the building."

The process of cleaning up the building requires that it be steam cleaned from top to bottom.

"We washed the entire outside of the kiosks, the inside of the meat cases. They have all been 100 percent taken apart, and cleaned from the bottom to the top.  We pre-spray all the walls with a hot pre-treatment, that is a degreaser, and then we hit it with the 350 degree water, and that is put on at 3000 PSI," added Mann.

Despite all of the damage Kevin Mann told us that there is a silver lining. "One of the things that people are going to see when they come back to the market is the ceiling. It's absolutely stunning.  When you look up, you're going to see a lot of white fixtures that you maybe didn't see before, that we unearthed.  I think the people of Cleveland are going to be surprised at the beauty of the architecture that was underneath all this soot, and some of the layers of dirt that have been here and haven't been able to get off because the market is always open. This kind of cleaning can't be performed due to the fact that it takes such a giant timeline. The silver lining in the cloud is that it's going to be better than it was prior to the incident."

Mann tells us that he is hoping to have the cleanup completed early next week.
